DJ Kay Slay’s Legacy Lives On at the 5th Annual Celebration of Life

A Family United to Continue His Legacy

DJ Kay Slay’s legacy continues through the family who knew him beyond the DJ booth, radio microphone and public persona.

His mother Mrs Sheila Grayson, Uncle Kevin Whiley, his Brothers the Legendary Twin Towers: Micheal Grayson and Kwame Grayson, his Sister CEO Lisa Marie, and his Niece BossLadyVPMichelle, have come together as a family collective to honor his life and continue celebrating his contributions to Hip Hop.

At the center of that family is Kay Slay’s mother, who has been a strong force in keeping the family connected. Together, the family has come together year after year to bring artists, special guests, friends and members of the Hip-Hop community together for the Annual Celebration of Life for DJ Kay Slay.

The celebration is not simply one person’s effort. It is a collective family tribute created to honor Kay Slay’s life, his career and the culture he loved.

Now in its fifth year, the Official 5th Annual Celebration of Life continues that tradition, bringing together independent artists, Hip-Hop veterans, special guests and supporters of Kay Slay’s legacy.

A Family Connection to Independent Artists

The family’s connection to music and independent artists also extends to World Wide International Records,LLC, which became part of the family’s involvement in supporting and developing independent talent during the evolution of Kay Slay’s career.

While the label’s exact beginnings are part of the family’s broader history, its connection to independent artists reflects a mission that closely mirrors Kay Slay’s own work.

Throughout his career, Kay Slay consistently used his influence to give independent artists opportunities to be heard, seen and recognized.

From his mixtapes to The Drama Hour, he understood that sometimes an artist simply needed someone willing to give them a platform.

Celebrating Hip-Hop Across Generations

The 5th Annual Celebration of Life features independent artist performances and special guests representing multiple generations of Hip Hop.

Among the special guests are legendary Video Music Box creator Ralph McDaniels, The Legendary Twin Towers, Legendary DJ RobERob, Legendary MC Silver Fox, who played an important role in mentoring a young LL Cool J, Paul Caine, Nasia Bella, Black_Jay4 Life, The Real D Boogz, The_Real_Dayzel, The Original Slick Rick, World Wide International Artists BKA Takari, Comedian PhatBaby, BabySkeet, CashFlow 314, Woeski Woe, OG Dougie, figures connected to the Ruff Ryders, Junior Mafia, Terror Squad and artists from Jim Jones VL Records.

The gathering brings together legends, industry veterans, independent artists and emerging talent, creating a cross generational celebration that reflects the impact Kay Slay had on the culture.

The Drama King Lives On

The Celebration of Life has become more than a memorial. It is a family tradition and a living tribute to a man who dedicated his career to Hip Hop.

His family has come together collectively to keep his name alive, bringing artists, guests and members of the culture together to celebrate the life of Keith Grayson.

From Harlem to HOT 97, from graffiti to mixtapes and radio, Kay Slay left an undeniable mark on Hip-Hop. He also threw Basketball Tournaments in East River and Wilson Houses in East Harlem keeping the community alive.

His influence continues through the artists he supported, the DJs he inspired, the relationships he built and the independent voices he helped amplify.

Five years later, his family and the Hip-Hop community continue to celebrate DJ Kay Slay, The Drama King.
